Lion red is a very nice binge drinking kiwi beer. Many a good night. Not the most sophisticated by any means, but definitely a beer to be devoured in large quantity. Paul from the states is obviously a knob!! For one it is a draught and not even close to being a lager. And secondly USA is renowned for its piss weak watery beer and inability to know a good beer if it bites them on the arse. The lesson here is to be very careful dishing out criticsim when you are an idiot. Lion Red is a nice cheap beer for the drinking heavily that serves a beautiful purpose of intoxicating the masses at many a kiwi BBQ, beach day, game of keg cricket, rugby trip, fishing trip, road trip..... could go on all day.

Drank this one growing up in NZ and was glad to find that YOU CAN GET IT IN THE STATES. Just go to your nearby Trader Joe's and they carry the handy six-pack.

I lived in Pakuranga back in 94-95 and this was the dogs balls for beer. Keep your ales and stouts! Give me nice lager or a pilsner any day! A fine thing on hot day If I could find it here in Michigan I would buy it by the barrel. if any one knows where to to get it or where to find it on the web in the US pleas email me!!

Although I'm living in Aussie I'm a Kiwi from West Auckland and know Lion Red very well as I used to run past the brewery every day. I found it to be headache material like Fosters but Lion Red was drinkable at least. I found the Maoris around the Rotorua district loved the stuff as much as Electric Puwha. So if a Maori offers it, just drink up and slip in a panadol and she'll be right mate!! I found Rheineck or the ice beers nicer drinking but if ya really want real beer then a Steinlager or Monteiths freshly malted beer is way nicer.

You can get it in the states (BevMo) but don't bother. Bland, light lager. Cool packaging.

Yeah Gidday... umm well when I was just in my 20s and didn't know what real beer was... this was it man! Then I moved down to Wellington, and I remember my ex used to keep her fridge stocked with "Mother's Milk" for me so I'd keep coming around... it worked... then later I went on to Tui... it's what they drink round there you know? Well I've lived in London since 1999, and being so close to Germany & Belgium I actually know what real beer is now, but just so youse whingers know, you *can* buy Leon Rouge (that's Lion Red in Frogese for you buggers who don't get it!) at the Downunder Center in Willesden Green in North West London... it's at 3 Willesden High Road NW10 (on the 98 bus route from town and the 260 & 266 sideways, closest tube... wait for it... Willesden Green) it's an Internet Cafe on the surface, but once you check it out it's actually a portal to home... with clothes and food and and awww it's red mate, and it's got a little Lion on it! Contact details: Downunder Centre, 3 High Rd, Willesden Green, NW10 2TE Ph: 02084518976 Email: Downundercentre@hotmail.com There's a link here: http://www.cheapas.com/touch.php And a map here: http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&db=pc&cidr_client=none&pc=NW102TE John

I had this beer in 2001 when on a job on Niue. I would really like to see it back here in the states.

Managed to sample this back in the 1980's and would have to say the quality is right up there with the other mass-produced brews in New Zealand...best to use on the dishes...avoid if wanting to feel body in your brew and taste of malts. Oh not to forget the aroma of the hops...what hops?, what aroma? A classless drop brewed for the masses of those who are immune to quality beer such as the hand made brews.
