In fact, SP has won the Monde Selection Ward international 3 times in a row, Gold Medal in Bacelonia, Spain for quality. The awards truely speaks for itself, placed SP amongst international brand names of Australia James Boags Premium and American Sam Adam also winners of the Monde selection Gold medal also.
I was in PNG in 1990 and remember a beer bottle label that had a drawing of a Bird of Paradise - I do not remember if it was SP beer but probably was. Does anyone know where I can find this beer or the label in the US?

sorry to differ, but i lived in PNG for 10 and SP has to be one of the world's worst beers. it has a flat and stale flavour and is really only popular because in most of the country it is the only thing you can buy. there are several varieties available including an "ice" beer which is undrinkable and an "export" line which has a nice picture on the can. one to avoid folks... (actually i like to drink it occasssionally for nostalgic value alone)

SP goes down well after a long day in the PNG dust. The ultimate thirst quencher. Sip it slowly on a deserted island surrounded by lush reef or chug it down to celebrate the latest marlin catch. A great tasting beer to be enjoyed anytime. Ignore the price up top.. it sells for PNG 4 Kina
