Sagres loses battle with Super Bock! by Adey
Just returned from a short holiday in Portugal. On offer to us at the local intermache was Sagres, Super Bock, and ...Carlsberg?!?! We decided to get a crate of both Sagres and Super Bock. After chilling the goods we set about bbq'in lumps of meat and seafood and sampling the beers. Before the coals had reached their optimum temperature the votes were in and the battle between Sagres and Super Bock was decided. 5 out of the 6 of us had firmly sided with Super Bock. The other guy was on Coke as he doesn't drink! (BTW he recommends Coke over Pepsi...and the 'full fat' variety at that, which I disagree with. Much prefer diet varieties of both drinks...whoops, slight tangent there!!) So, to 5 lads from Yorkshire, Super Bock is by far superior to Sagres. But of course that is only our opinion. You'll never know if you like it until you try it!!
The Ragleth Inn nr Church Stretton Shropshire England now has Sagres on pump and its GREAT!

Just got back from 2 weeks in the Algarve.I have been there many times and always look forward to several Sagres.A great beer thats almost as srtong as Stella Artois but it is a nice smooth beer without the sharp after taste like Stella and Sagres does not leave you with a banging head like Stella does after a session.All in all its a great beer and well cheap too at 98c for a Litre
Its also worth mentioning Sagres Boheimien dark beer.Its 6% and has a lovely stout flavour that hits the spot..
I am English but I live in Portugal, Sagres is definatley one of the best beers, better than Super Bock, Tagus, Marina, Cristal etc...
i live in australia and drink alot. i do like our local beers as they are cheaper and a good quality. I however have found a nice litlle bottle shop that is selling imported beer at similar prices to our local. Sagres for me is an excellent tasting beer, not to rich, and excellent value. drinking it right now and it agrees with me. 10 out of 10
I have been toUK,Holland,Germany,Austria Australia and many other countries and have had beer both there and here in USA and none come close to the taste and quality that I enjoyed on my two trips to Portugal.I found Sagres once years ago at a beer special shop in Bethesda M aryland---Bought all they had ( two cases)--Looking for it here in Fl.,no luck yet.
There is a big rivalry between beer drinkers, just like in football fans, the country is divided between Sagres and Super Bock... The rivalry stands a little between the north and sounth of the country. I actually don't dislike this beer, it is too much sparkled for my taste, it gives gases for a hangover, and it's very light, but Super Bock is far a better beer. I'm just giving it an 1 because someone did the same for Super Bock, just to pull down it's ratings... So, let's start avoiding clubism in here too, please!
Sagres is a flawless beer, good strength, great taste and minimal aftertaste.
Amber in colour, foamy just the right amount.
Put it top of your list next time you visit Portugal. Can't make Portugal, then go Nandos!
Sagres Great beer!!! !rich full bodied with a hint of stout. Goes down smooth and no bitter after taste like a lot of european imports .I have driven from Annapolis Maryland to Newark New Jersey (Ferry Street) to pick up a few cases because they dont sell it in Maryland. I am a true beer lover and would have to say it is much better than Hieniken or Corona
As someone of Portuguese descent who has lived in the UK and the US, you can get Cerveja Sagres in the UK at some of the Odd Bins or small Off-Licenses (I got mine at an off license near the West Kensington tube stop in London). In the US, Sagres' distributer is out of Massachusetts, so try online to find a package store that sells it. Any way about it, Sagres is a damn good beer...Tchau!

I'm an exchange student from portugal... Sagres it's not the best beer I've ever drank but it's still better than all the beer in U.S.A!!!! For the real lovers of beer just go to Portugal and try to find some small places, in small towns, like Faro where they do beer... that's good beer!!! see you soon!
ello luke and dave ere , we were in portugal not so long back n we thoguht sagres went down a treat , we even bought some n brought it bak but weve ran out now n want some more ne help ne one e-mail me white_lightning_2k4@hotmail.com, we cant find it ne were in the uk it devastating help !!

.I enjoy lots of different beers but Sagres is a delightfully refreshing drop...Billy.
I'm not much of a beer drinker, but when I was in Protugal this is almost all I drank! Great beer! Just wish I could find it here in the US.
