We just got back from P.R. two days ago and had the most relaxing amazing time. While I was at the bar I finally asked for a Medalla Light after tasting it I had it down within a few minutes then had another, I loved it! I'm not big on strong tasting beer but I'm not down with watered down tasting beer either. I hope that we get it in the states because our summers here in TN are scorching and theres nothing like a nice cold beer to cool you off!!!!!

This site must be in league with the Medalla people. I just got back from P.R. It's a wonderful place but horrible on the beer situation. Due to import & alcohol taxes beer is crazy expensive. All the cans are a puny 10oz'ers and half the stores don't refrigerate their beer section. Medalla is the most inexpensive beer on the island but it tastes like something that has run off the bathroom floor. If you can keep them REALLY ICE COLD and are already drunk you might not notice you are drinking a weak nasty little excuse for beer. If you don't know good beer from your elbow you are probably ok anyways. Beer drinkers beware. forget packing cloths or anything else. Fill your suitcase with your favorite beer! Everything else can be bought on the Island.

My wife and I went to puerto RICO fir a long weekend.... and coming from a real beer drinker... I had 1 bottle if medella light... and realized that this was one if the best beers I ever had...I live in Delaware and no luck... no one sells it...bummer....

I'm from Puerto Rico, and you can't buy Medalla Light in the United States. There is a unofficial embargo on Medalla due to something about the island taxes (you would pay a lot more for Medalla if it was in the US). So, you are better off trying to find a Puerto Rican bar near you. They'll probably have it, I know many in Philadelphia and NYC do.

some of us know that medalla doesnt sell in united state because lobiyist all we have to is write to barak obama to let the the cerveceria india sell medallas in united state every time there is a lots of beers label inthe state why no let medalla sell it in the state we all know bedweiser and coors company are scared of the competition why ? they dont say anything when it come fron others country beers because medalla they all know will out sell them like bacardi does it all if bacardi is puertorican rum selling in the state they have to let medalla too competition who cared any way medallas always will be the best .

I have been to Puerto Rico twice and plan on going back this year for vacation.... just to get some more Medalla Light. It is a true crime that Americans can not get the chance to enjoy such a great beer. It is worth the trip to just get the beer. Any true beer drnker such try to make a pilgrimage to PR... you will be hooked like the rest of us beer nuts.

I remember seeing Brian K, and he had a bottle nipple on that beer! So, there is definitely still more Medalla beer in PR. I agree -- the beer was great, but next time check out the Carribean Lover or Boricua Kiss!

Me and my husband went to Puerto Rico last month on our honeymoon and we tried the famous Medalla Light. I will agree with everyone, it is the best beer ever. I don't like beer but this beer was the bomb!!!!!

I was in San Juan for a week on business and I tried to drink all of the Medalla on the island! I had heard that it was an especially delicious brew and it did not disappoint. It goes down particularly well at the El Condado swim-up bar.

The best beer ever! Unfortunately Puerto Rico is completely out...I drank it all!!!

I love this beer!!!! I have been looking for this in the US for 8 years. My husband and I went to P. R for our honeymoon and we were hooked. I hope it comes to the US and is distributed to the West Coast.

Although Medalla Light has been recognized throughout the world for its quality, there is an unofficial embargo on its exportation. As a territory of the US, Puerto Rico must abide by federal commerce laws imposed on the island’s imports and exports. US-based brewing companies, like Anheuser-Bush and Miller, have powerful lobbyists in Washington DC, who have pressed to limit competition in the US mainland. They see Medalla Light as a powerful competitor.

This is a good beer by most standards, and an exceptional light beer. It would be successful in the U.S.; no wonder Miller wants to keep it out. All we saw in P.R. was the light version - is there a regular Medalla?

The word on Medalla not being readily available in the United States is that the efforts of Cervezaria India (who manufactures Medalla) was thwarted by the Miller Brewing Comapny. Back in the 80s, Miller offered to be the importer (Puerto Rico is a colonial posession of the US, but not a state) and distributer of Medalla in the US. However, they quickly saw that Medalla was cutting into their Miller sales not just among Puerto Ricans but other Latinos that hung out with them (Dominicans, etc.). Something nasty happened in the contractual obligation between Miller and Cerv. India and the whole deal fell apart. Also, the US Government dictates what can and cannot be exported from Puerto Rico. It is a nasty situation. I will be looking into more detail on this in the near future. -- Rafael Merino Cortés, NY Latino Journal

I dream of going back one day to P.R. if only to spend some quite relaxed time in Viques sipping some cold Medallas and watching the sunsets.

I loved Medalla beer, I had it while I was in P.R. Does anyone know how I could get it here in Missouri? I would really like to let my friends try it.

I agree that Medalla is great tasting beer. I spent a few months in Puerto Rico on business and while I was there that is all I drank. Finding it in the States can be difficult though. I remember one Puerto Rican restaurant on 9th Avenue in NYC, served it a few years back. Since there are very few bodegas within the five boroughs of NYC that are still Puerto Rican owned, there is really no way of finding it anymore. Prior to 9/11 I used to frequent a bogey in The Bronx that sold Medalla to his regular customers if they wanted it. He had his connections on the island ship it up here to him. I never asked how. since it is harder to get things on planes anymore the best way to get this great tasting cerveza is to have a friend or relative in PR mail it to you somehow. Love to have one right now with a plate of pernil, rice, and fried plantains. Hearing some Jibaro music while savoring this would be nice too!

I love Medalla Light so much I am moving back to Puerto Rico, so I can become a professional beach bum...LOL Seriously, this is the best kept beer secret in the world. It is smooth and refreshing. This is the best beer I have had in years and we drink plenty of it when we are in P.R. visiting family every year. Find it, try it and I promise, you will not be disappointed.
*****
this is the best beer i have ever had, i wish it was sold in the states, this beer has a light taste with no after taste and you dont feel the bloated feeling after several, the folks in puerto rico served it ice cold and after working construction in the humidity down there it was definately something to look forward to, i can hardly wait to set up a vacation down there and spend some more time sipping some ice downs from p.r.

Definetively is a great beer. Last year the company was trying to export the beer for the latin market in United States. They were working with focus groups and importers companies to work for the marketing strategy. Moreover they are going through the expansion of the company, because right know the beer is so famous that they are selling almost 100 % of the production. I hoped I can finally find la medalla in the states.
