Windhoek Lager - Review from Chappy

Windhoek is a superb beer, and in my opinion, the 2nd best in the word. Furthermore, Charles, if you are going to plagiarise information from a a quick Google search, try to get the whole story. The purity laws cover many aspects, not just the one that you claim. What it prevents is the addition of chemicals to speed up the brewing process. The reason most mainstream beers do not conform is that they add these chemicals. A good friend of mine is a supplier of such chemicals to various breweries. These speed up the process to such an extent, that cheap (and terrible) beers such as most of the mainstream Australian beers (VB, XXXX) can be brewed in 2-3 hours. These manufacturers also add more sugar to their beers, which breaks down quicker than malt. This is why better quality beers taste more malty than their cheaper counterparts. This is also a reason why cheap beer makes you angry - it's the sugar rush and not the alcohol (same theory for Rums and Brandies).
