I would not be surprised if this guy gets in fistfights in his own place. This is one bad review that even I would not believe if I was not writing it. I am NEVER one to complain or ask for anything off my bill. When something tastes bad or is cooked improperly, I deal with it. I have never asked to speak with a manager in my life. My wife had a $25 off coupon from Restaurant.com at Gaucho's for the "Feast of Meats". We decided to try the place. We diligently ordered the "Feast of Meats" as stated on the coupon. The coupon had NO price restrictions, NO night restrictions and everything seemed to be in order. It did NOT state, "buy one get one when one is purchased at $$$" or ANYTHING like that. During our dinner, there seemed to be some questioning about a coupon going on at the next table. I figured we would have to wait and see what happened. The server came over and stated that the manager suggested we use the coupon on a Saturday night when the "Feast of Meats" was $35.00. Basically we could not use it because the "Feast of Meats" was on special for $19.99. I politely told her that it would make no sense to do that because $35.00 x 2 -$25 would basically be what our bill was tonight. I instead paid my BILL IN FULL and tipped her 20%. It was clear this place had NO INTENTIONS to honor the coupon in the first place. They would not make the SERVER come over to negotiate a compromise with the CUSTOMER if they had. The manager or owner should have come over personally. The coupon was clear, my purchase was clear, their business practices were the only thing UNCLEAR in the situation. On the way out I wanted to make sure the manager or someone in charge knew that I paid my bill and felt I got shafted by Gaucho's. I approached the owner and asked "Are you in charge of this joint?" He said "Yes". I laid down the coupon and in a conversational tone said "I ordered the feast of meats, your coupon says $25 off. You sent the server over to explain why you won't honor the coupon. That is NOT the way to handle the situation" I then said, "Posting my exact experience to the internet will cost you more than just honoring the coupon in the first place". He YELLS back, "This is the first I have heard about it. Do you want to let me talk or do you just want to make a scene?" I raised my voice and said, "Make a scene? I paid my bill. There is no scene. I am not making a scene". By this time he is SCREAMING. "No, you just wanted to make a scene. You don't want me to make it right." I said "There is nothing to make right. I paid my bill in full. Honor your coupons from now on, don't send your servers to negotiate". I know this sounds CRAZY for an owner to scream in front of waiting customers BUT THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED. I had no intentions of doing anything but letting him know, one to one, that I paid my bill and felt shafted. No one even heard my initial conversation with him! Sure, I could have called over the manager earlier and made a stink, but I should not have to. I bought what was listed and had no IDEA anything was going to go wrong. They win in the end. Even IF we had the $25 OFF, we did not really eat enough to harm their bottom line. Scale of 1-10: Atmosphere/Ambiance: 5 (inside somewhat dumpy, nice chairs) Food: 6 (some meat rare, lot of fat, some over cooked, to be expected I suppose) Servers: 8 (friendly, fast enough usually) Location: 6 (in the sticks) Management: 0 point 0
