it's not regular wine bar by jhnsng
This is the type of place that you keep going and going. The first time I was there the owner was walking aournd and stopped at our table to ask how our food wats etc. And then all the rest of the staff were great as well -- just all around nice and engaging without being intrusive. Then I came back a few days later for lunch and my waitress remembered me which was awesome. The manager was different but he was really nice too, and stopped to talk to us again. Also, lunch has a great pre fixe menu that gives you a soup or app and a mini panini for a great price. Third time I went back the first manager was there and he remembered me even though it had been a while. It was so nice to find a place where you really feel like a regular and they actually remember you like one too. Such a different from most wine bars in New York that are just pricey and snobby. Now I have lunch there as often as I can -- I can't get enough of it
Great place for post-work drinks, especially now that the sidewalk is open. It’s fun to sit out there. Only problem was that the tables really glare in the sunlight; kills the eyes. They’re good about moving the umbrellas around though, which is really nice
The little woman is big on exploring wine bars in NYC and I can’t be bothered. We live in NJ and the trek in for some wine and tiny plates of overpriced food just doesn’t do it for me. So when she dragged me to this place I was less than excited. But I was pleasant’y surprised at Ayza. Unlike most of the wine bars in New York that we’ve been to, this one isn’t as hoity toity . The staff is friendly and down to earth – almost too much so if that’s possible. The owners came by and talked to us and recommended a nice wine that didn’t cost too much, which was great b/c I know nothing about wine and hate it when they try to just sell the most expensive thing. And we liked the food too. So if the lady of the house is draggin my butt to the city for a wine bar again we’ll definitely be returning to Ayza.
