Albuquerque Travel Guide for backpackers

A city of half a million people, Albuquerque goes about its business industriously by day, and at night throws off the cloak of commerce and diligence and does what it really does do best… party's. People flock to downtown Albuquerque to check out the live music and funky dance clubs.

DAILY BUDGET in ALBUQUERQUE - Camp or stay in cheap hostels, practice your own culinary skills, and travel on buses, to a budget of US$50.00 a day, or for a bit more comfort check into a motel and dine at halfway decent cafes and reckon on spending US$100 a day.

Old Town Plaza - The historical heart of the city, the plaza is lined with shops, galleries and restaurants, as well as Native American's selling arts and crafts on the sidewalks, and has some interesting architecture reflecting the history of the place.

Albuquerque Biological Park - Aquarium and Botanic Garden - Fantastic displays of marine life can be seen in the aquarium, and the botanical garden has exhibits of desert flora in one section and exotic Mediterranean plants in the other.

University of New Mexico - Take Self-Guided Walking Tour through the 600-acre campus to see the Pueblo Revival and Spanish Colonial architecture and beautifully landscaped gardens of the University.
