Alicante Travel Guide for backpackers


Alicante, situated on a bay between two capes on the east coast of Spain and is a backpackers dream location. It has stretched out beaches, great festivals, all night parties and gracious castles with loads of historical places to embark on. The city has an African flavour with hawkers selling African carvings along the waterfront and esplanades.

The numerous glorious beaches are a must see. This is one of the city's strong points. Alicante's mild climate makes beach-life feasible practically all year round. The best in Spain, is la Playa de San Juan, a bus ride away from the city centre. Nudists, should head for the coves of Cabo de las Huertas.
 

DAILY BUDGET in ALICANTE - Budgeting on meals at 12 – 18 USD, accommodation on 30 – 65 USD you will be able to do much and see a whole lot if you add a few dollars for sightseeing.

Castell de Santa Barbara - The impressive castle towers over Alicante and was originally built by the Carthaginians.

The Parque Municipal Gardens - One of the most popular gardens. It is a great spot for mind gather and an ideal place to plan you next trip.

Open Air Concerts - Music lovers can attend a concert next to the sea in the afternoons, on the Paseo de la Explanada.

Fiestas - Alicante is known for its colourful traditional fiestas. St John’s Night, 24 to 25 June a huge fireworks display is set off from the top of Mount Benacantil. A huge firework competition is also held from 25 – 29 June.

Tasca Nou Manolim - At Calle Villegas 3, this is a buzzing place with several kinds of stews, paella and fresh fish. Lovely seafood dishes at really good prices.

La Piezzietta - At LaPlaza Santisima Fax 3, you will find the most delectable mouth-watering pizzas.

Restaurante Marisqueria Club Nautico - Enjoy tapas at the bar or eat in style inside overlooking the yachts at the marina.

Penelope's Bar (Playa de Levante, Benidorm ) - situated on the pedestrian promenade

Bounders - English-style pub featuring live music and karaoke from 9pm until late.

La Llum (Calle de Padre Maltes, Alicante City) - A Tiny dance bar that stays open until the early hours with lotsa locals.

Nou Manolin's - At Calle Villegas 3, the street level contains a busy bar area.
