| Arles Travel Guide for backpackers |

| Culture out completely! Arles has it all for the culture vulture – van Gogh (just prior to his death and during his “going mad” period) and Picasso were both drawn to this town on the Rhone and museums and art galleries are in abundance. Arles has wonderful churches and Roman ruins that bed to be explored. |

DAILY BUDGET in ARLES - Not cheap but more affordable than Paris. Food is where you can save a bundle – picnic regularly and your food budget would drop from US$ 60 to around US$18. Good range of accommodation from US$ 25 – 70. |
Cirque Romaine – Fantastic museum for a trip back in time that interactively takes you from Roman rule.
Musee Reattu – Gargoyles on the outside, Picasso and van Gogh on the inside. Fabulous!
Fondation Vincent Van Gogh – Eclectic and extensive gallery hosting an extraordinary collection of modern art including David Hockney.
Ecole Nationale de la Photographie – Early June this venue hosts an international photography exhibition but it’s worth a visit year round.
|

Hostellerie des Arenes – Brilliant home cooked French food – service can be abrupt but the large plates make it worthwhile.
The Market – Busiest on Saturdays. Cheeses, deli meats, breads, olives, wine wine wine.
L’Oliver – Great seafood at good prices set in a 12th century house.
|

La Paillote – Not for vegetarians as bull steak is on the menu. Lively locals abound. Music to work off the meal.
El Quinto Toto – Spanish, Portuguese & French foodies but has a great array of tapas to suit everyone. French & Spanish wines at fair prices. Soothing music to chill to.
The Interview – Enjoy the Moroccan and Local fare in a relaxed atmosphere.
