| Asuncion Travel Guide for backpackers |
Asuncion is the capital of Paraguay and the center of everything vital to the country, economic and political matters are dealt with here, and it also defines such sapects of life as education and culture for the whole country. It is located on the Paraguay River and is also the main port and industrial center in the country.
Asuncion is a great represention of Paraguay as a whole, and is a great place for the tourist to visit. The vibrant mestizo culture is unique and offers agreat experience for al who visit the city. |

 DAILY BUDGET in ASUNCION - Asuncion is a relatively cheap city to visit and caters well for the budget tourist, a daily budget of US$35 should be sufficient to get by on. If you want to live it up a little and experience all that the city has to offer, a daily budget of US$80 should do the trick. |

Independence Square - Plaza Independencia is a beautiful and wooded square, situated close to the river and infront of the cathedral. The Plaza is an ideal place to have a cool rest from the heat of Asuncion, while watching the people go by.
The Senate Building - Asuncion is a quite ancient city, with some beautiful colonial buildings; the Senate building is a modern building, which stands up as some kind of flying saucer. This building was inaugurated in 2003, and the government of Taiwan donated 18 millions of dollars to its construction.
Elisa Lynch's House - Elisa Lynch was a fascinating woman, who played an important role in the history of Paraguay; loved and hated, this Irish woman was the mistress of Marshall Francisco Solano Lopez, and followed him to the Guerra de la Triple Alianza

Lido Bar - This a fast food bar found in the centre of Asuncion, and is great for grabbing a quick bite to eat. The food is good and prices very low. The Empandas are highly recommended.
Rodizio - Located on Palma in downtown Asuncion, this lovely airconditioned restaurant offers a buffet, where you serve yourself and then they weigh your plate to determine how much it costs. It is very cheap and the food is great.
Pancholos - This is the Macdonalds of Paraguay, they have a little bit for everyone. Burgers and Pizza and Pasta. The burgers are a little different they use sliced meat not processed and all with ham and egg. Found in downtown Asuncion.

Coyote - This nightclub is very popular with the locals and tourists alike. Here you can meet new people and dance the night away untill all hours. The staff are friendly and the prices are good.
Alexander's Garden - This amazing, trendy cocktail bar with a huge and spectacular tropical garden is found at 955 Cruz del Defensor. It is very popular and draws a mixed group of people, both locals and tourists.
Vera Cruz - A crazy, mental, huge music venue. Pretty much exclusively Paraguyan patronage.
