DAILY BUDGET in ATLANTA - With cheap meals beginning in the US$3-10 and hostels or camp sites around about US$12-70, the backpackers hard pressed finances could take a beating of around US$50.00 a day, and for US$100 a day motels and cafe grub becomes an option. |
Buckhead - Swish, swanky and schwow, rather like its most famous resident, Elton John, is an affluent white suburb, with relics of the past such as the Governors Mansion, and up-to-the-minute modern shopping malls.
Downtown Atlanta - In downtown Atlanta the main tourist attraction is a labyrinth of shops and cobbled gas-lit streets restored to its original splendour, with restaurants, bars and stalls, as they once were before being demolished in 1970.
The Atlanta Public Library - Located on Margaret Mitchell Square the library has a room dedicated to the author of Gone with the Wind, a novel so popular it sold enough copies in six weeks to form a tower that would have loomed fifty times the height of the Empire State Building.

Dekalb Farmers' Market - 3000 E Ponce de Leon Ave, grab some goat stew, or fresh catfish, or some other chow such as glazed duck from the food stalls here.
Mary Mac's Tearoom - Also on Ponce de Leon Ave this little restaurant serves cheap traditional Southern food.
Thelma's Kitchen - 768 Marietta St NW, if you are into soul-food, try the salmon and grits at this inexpensive eatery.

Kaya Club & Bistro - 1068 Peachtree St NE, Reggae, hip-hop, jazz, and Latin, this dance club has it all.
Masquerade - 695 North Ave NE, trendy and hip this hangout has rooms decorated as Heaven, Hell and Purgatory, an outdoor auditorium, and live bands from Wednesday to Sundays.
Burkhart's Pub - 1492 Piedmont Ave, drag, karaoke and gays are the main attractions in this Midtown bar.
