Atlantic City Travel Guide for backpackers

If gambling and taking a chance on life is your scene, then Atlantic City will show you how it's done. The city, on which Monopoly was modeled, is where the first Miss America Beauty Pageant was held in 1921, and where the glittering event is still held today, and the site of the first Boardwalk in America, Atlantic City has seen it all. When it began floundering in its own debt and bankruptcy and slowly falling into ruin and decay the city decided to save itself by making gambling legal. Good Plan!

DAILY BUDGET in ATLANTIC CITY - By staying in hostels, and doing your own catering, or camping and doing your own catering, you should be able to squeak by on US$50 a day, but to add a few memories, other than that of the gnawing in your stomach, or the yearning for a bit of fun, then be prepared to fork out about US$ 100 per day, and live it up at cheap motels, and grab a few meals at mid-range restaurants.

Atlantic City Historical Museum & Miller Art Center - Check out the museum on the restored Garden Pier where memorabilia of some of the greatest names in entertainment remind us of the city's glittering past. Convention Hall - The venue of the Miss America Pageant since 1921, the Convention Hall can be explored and the massive 33,112 pipe organ, the largest of its kind in the world can be viewed, if there aren't any gorgeous girls around. Ripley's Believe It or Not - Come in to see some of the weirdest stuff on the planet, that is if you can get past its unbelievable exterior, a building split down the centre as if by the 1812 earthquake in New Madrid, Missouri and measured 8 on the Richter scale.
Add your favourite free attraction!

The Boardwalk - Pizza, burger, sandwich places, and diners serving cheap breakfasts, and food stalls for cheap chow, the boardwalk is the backpacker's cravin' haven. Los Amigos - 1926 Atlantic Ave, Open until 5am Friday and Saturday, this Mexican Restaurants serves great food and cheap enough for the backpacker. White House Sub Shop - Mississippi and Arctic Aves. Buy a sub here and you just might be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of Bill Cosby buying his if he is in town.
Add your favourite cheap eat!

Irish Pub & Inn - 164 Saint James Pl, this warm and welcoming pub offers great service, good food and is not out to fleece its patron's.

Studio Six Dance Club - 12 S Mount Vernon Ave, Hard trance, cool DJ, great vibe, can't get better in Jersey. Lower Bank Tavern - 1509 Rte 542, Friendly, rustic and superb prime ribs, not only great food, but darts and pool table make this a great venue.
Add your favourite bar or club!
