| Austria Travel Guide for backpackers |

| The hills in Austria may be alive with the sound of music, but they are also filled with awesome architecture, some of the most banging skiing in the world, and paragliding to blow your mind. The lakes and mountains in summer provide pretty fantastic hiking, climbing and exploring, and if your cash flow is not has healthy as it should be there are always the beaches where you can mellow out and check out the talent while catching some rays. |

Vienna - This is the diamond in the dazzling crown of Austria, and here the buildings reflect the magnificence of the Hapsburg dynasty.
Eisriesenwelt Caves - Forty kilometers of extreme caverns of ice formations and frozen waterfalls 1640m high.
Grossglockner Road - Catch a ride for a tour along the fifty kilometers of mountain road overlooking the dramatic panorama of Austria’s mountains.
Salzburg - For art and architecture enthusiasts the old town of Salzburg is a smorgasbord of churches, courtyards with splashing fountains, and will quite possibly sound the death knell for traveling Diabetics, with divine chocolate, and liqueurs.
St Anton - In St Anton the excellent skiing, easy going mood, and great night scene can cost heavy, but what a cool way to blow your moola? |

DAILY BUDGET in AUSTRIA - With budget meals running at about US$5-10 and sleeping arrangements about US$10-40, a careful backpacker can possibly get by on about US$50 a day, by camping or staying in cheap hostels and doing a spot of self catering, but for US$10 more you can add a bit of bling to your fling and stay in a mid-range hotel, and enjoy some decent meals and some entertainment. |
Austria is a year-round destination with both summer and winter activities. In the high season in July/August prices soar as tourists come streaming in for summer fun. Winter sports begin from mid-December to March, but the most beautiful time of the year is spring, in June, when Alpine flowers burst into bloom and mountainsides are alive with colour.
Music festivals are held throughout the year, with the Vienna International Festival held from mid-May to mid-June, and the celebration of spring in February the Fasching (Carnival), with masked processions and dances, being just two of them. |
