| This majestic and awesome wonder of the world that is sacred to the Aboriginal people, speaks from the arid Australian desert in a language of haunting colours and changing moods.
As the world's largest monolith it rises 318m above the desert floor and men have died trying to scale its precipitous heights when they have not shown due respect. The Aborigines urge people not to attempt climbing it as it is of great spiritual significance, as well as being hazardous. |

DAILY BUDGET in AYERS ROCK - For backpackers who stay in on-site caravans, or camp, and do their own catering, it is possible to come out on US$30 - 35 a day, as food in Australia is pretty inexpensive, but to cover the cost of the budget-busting travel expenses in this vast country, and provide occasional restaurant meals and cheap hotels then rather plan on US$58 - 60 a day. |
Olgas (Kata Tjuta) - Located 32 km from Uluru is the Kata Tjuta National Park and the immense red rocks known as the Olgas or Kata Tjuta.
Rock Art - Study the strange paintings of the aborigine's ancestors and try to fathom out what made them tick.
Walpa Walk - Arrange for an Aborigine guide to take you on a tour to Olga Gorge and learn from him their ancient traditions and beliefs.

Outback Pioneer Lodge - Tulare Drive - Open from 11am to 9pm, this kiosk serves fish and chips, or burgers, and is the cheapest source of food around.
BBQ - If you don't fancy the fish and chips from the kiosk, save a few bucks and go for the cook-your-own BBQ, with unlimited salads, for about US$11.
Geckos Cafe - Shopping Square - This Mediterranean-style restaurant is good for wood-fired pizzas and pastas.

Sails in the Desert Hotel - Enjoy sundowners at the hotel, or sip cocktails at the bar in this great hotel in the Ayers Rock Resort.
The Lost Camel - There is a small bar located in this hotel in Ayres rock Resort.
The Desert Gardens Hotel - Enjoy a drink at the White Gums, Palya Poolbar, Bunya Bar in this luxurious hotel.
