| Baltimore Travel Guide for backpackers |

| Baltimore is one of those cities that grabs you and holds you, and doesn't let go easily. It has been home to eccentrics and alternative thinkers for ever, and has some interesting and historic quarters, as well as great museums and other attractions. |
|
 |
DAILY BUDGET in BALTIMORE - A backpacker could just feasibly come out on US$50 a day bumming around the USA, with cheap meals anything from US$3 to US$5, and camping or staying in cheap hostels for about US$12 to US$70, but US$100 a day would see more comfort and whole lot better food than your own cooking. |
Baltimore Museum of Art/b> - Free on first Thurs of the month, this museum has awesome collections of art, from Botticelli to Picasso, and devotes an entire gallery to Warhol.
Federal Hill Park/b> - Escape the crowd, eat your burger in peace, and check out the view from this quiet part of the city.
The B&O Railroad Museum/b> - 901 W Pratt St, housed in an 1830 passenger station, this museum is crammed with railroad memorabilia and old time locomotives and carriages.
|

Women's Industrial Exchange Restaurant/b> - 333 N Charles St, this 1940's cafe is excellent value and serves man-sized portions of chicken gumbo for $5, as well as first-rate crab cakes.
Thairish/b> - 804 N Charles St, cheap, but authentic Thai food is served in this tiny, little outlet in Mount Vernon.
Rick's Cafe Americain/b> - 2903 O'Donnell St, burgers and sandwiches are served in this Casablanca style eatery, as well as main courses.
|

Bohagers/b> - 701 S Eden St, live bands and wild nights are served up regularly at this dance club.
Sisson's/b> - 36 E Cross St, home-brews and Cajun/Creole cooking make this one of the most popular hangouts in Federal Hill.
Eight by Ten - 10 E Cross St, indie rock and reggae keep this joint jumping with live bands every night.
