| Basel Travel Guide for backpackers |

| One of Switzerland’s cultural centers, Basel, the third largest city in the land, is known for its art and antiquities. Set on the banks of the Rhine, and with the mountains and forests surrounding, a backpacker could get lost in the choice of beautiful places to spend an afternoon exploring. And, if it is raining there are always great museums or some of the finest shops in the country to investigate. |

DAILY BUDGET in BASEL - Switzerland is one of those places that chows your cash, and doesn’t spit out much change. However, take heart, brave wanderer with a pack on your back and hunger in your belly, there is hope for you. There are always hostels, campsites, and self-catering, to cut your costs and US$30 a day should get you by for food and lodging. Going for a private room in a pension, and throwing caution out the door for the privilege of restaurant dining and enjoying the nightlife will cost double or more. |
Wanderweg - 744 miles of marked trails take you on a scenic tour of the countryside and include all the famous landmarks.
Rathaus - The impressive sandstone town hall was built in 1504 and is ornately decorated with decorated with frescoes and shields from the ancient city guildhalls, and is the symbol of the city.
Munster (Cathedral) - Originally built in 1019, the cathedral was destroyed by an earthquake in 1356, and is still undergoing renovation and refurbishment today.

Schiesser - Market Square, this cafe cum Tea Room, sells the most divine chocolate and coffee and is not expensive.
Da Roberto - Kuchengasse 3, soups, salads, and pizza are all served here at prices even a hungry backpacker can afford.
La Ballade - Klingental 8, this restaurant is one of those places that are posh enough to impress but cheap enough to afford, check it out.

Elle et Kui- Rebgasse 39, one of the gay bars around town, this is a great place for some funky fun even if you’re not queer.
NT/Areal - 21-23 Erlenstrasse, here the sounds are soul and funk, the crowd gets heaving as the night progresses and so does the music.
Brauerei Fischerstube - 45 Rheingasse, this old-fashioned beer-garden, biergarten, to the educated, is right next door to the only brewery in the city, what can I say? Shweet.
Cargo Bar - Under the johanniter-bridge this small bar offers you some cheap drinks and tapas and normaly some live music or dj in the evenings.in summer you can sit directly at the shor of the rhine.check out!
