Belfast Travel Guide for backpackers

Belfast is a good city to visit for the backpacker with much to see within walking distance. The elegant architecture of old Victorian buildings, parks and public places, and the recently revitalised Lagan Weir and its sparkling water, are just a few of the attractions of this city that has seen so much in the way of “troubles”, as its long and painful rebellion is known.

DAILY BUDGET in BELFAST - Stay at a hostel, chow down on pub lunches, and do your own cooking at night, and you just might make it on US$25 a day, with meals running at about US$4 to $-8, and accommodation in the region of US$10 to $20, but be warned Ireland is and expensive place to visit.

The Cathedral Quarter - This trendy, happening place of restaurants and bars also has some amazing old buildings, including the 1860 Ulster Bank that is decorated with cast iron ornamentation.

Botanic Gardens - Quite apart from the peace and quiet of the gardens there are also some excellent things to see here, such as the tiny terrapins in the Tropical Ravine and its jungle of tropical vegetation, and the Ulster Museum.

University Square - Near the Botanic Gardens, this terrace is considered one of the finest in Ireland, and its shaded streets are filled with quiet cafes and rowdy students.
Add your favourite free attraction!

Bronco's Web - Located at 122 Great Victoria St, this is an Internet cafe that also serves great paninis, sandwiches and soup.

Conor's Cafe Bar - Located at 11a Stranmillis Rd, you can grab a great brunch here, at a decent price, and enjoy it in what was once Willie Conor's art studio.

Queen's Espresso - Located at 17 Botanic Ave, this cafe serves excellent coffee and foods from toasted sandwiches to mixed salads.
Add your favourite cheap eat!

The Botanic Inn - Located at 23 Malone Rd, and known as the ‘Bot' (duh, what else?) this is the hangout of those rowdy students we mentioned earlier, brills for DJ's, vibe, and partying.

Culpa - Located at 1 Bankmore Square, Dublin Rd, this is the club your mother warned you about. (enjoy it all the same, she not around to see)

Wetherspoon's - Located at 37 Bedford St, this is where the meals are affordable and the stout the cheapest in Belfast.
Add your favourite bar or club!
