| Bilbao Travel Guide for backpackers |

Believe it or not, there are things other than the Guggenheim de Arte Contemporaneo in Bilbao. It is the biggest port in Spain and the sixth largest city, and has been around since June 15th 1300.
Bilbao has, among other things, a sensational nightlife, offering every degree of entertainment from world-class opera and ballet, to happening late-nite music bars and clubs for the gays, guys and girls. |

DAILY BUDGET in BILBAO - It is possible to come out on US$ 23 - 25 a day, if you enjoy the Spartan life, with no booze and your own cooking, US$ 23 - 25 a day gives a little more glitz with hotel room, proper food, using public transport and seeing a few sights. |
Museo Guggenheim de Arte Contemporaneo - This is the fantastic conglomeration of glass and titanium that put Bilbao on the map, and displays works by Serra, Braque, Kandinsky, Picasso, Warhol, and other such geniuses.
Casco Viejo - This is the medieval core of Bilbao, a 14th century village with cobbled lanes and filled with tapas bars and cafes.
Guernica - Take a day trip to the charming town that Hitler reduced to rubble, and Picasso immortalized, but the people rebuilt.
LibrerÃa Yorick - San Francisco (in front of the 15th), Yorick is a performing arts bookshop. Theatre, music and dance.

El Mercado de la Riviera - One of the biggest covered markets in Europe, a hungry backpacker could pick up enough fresh fruit and veg to fill even his aching, bottomless pit.
K2 - Located on 10 Somera this is a large pub that opens early morning and provides students with breakfast, and also serves 90 different types of sandwiches.
Piccolino - On Autonomia, 8, this cafe serves snacks, sandwiches, and a variety of delicious baked buns, croissants and other such goodies.

Cab - Located at Alameda del Doctor Areilza, 27, bop ‘til you drop to the sounds of live pop performances.
Senador (El) - Located at Alameda de Urquijo, 30 (Galerias) party hard in this little place with a big mirror for egotists and others to watch the frantic antics of the dancers.
Congreso - Located at Calle Uribitarte, 8, Techno-house and DJ’s keep it happening in Congreso, gays, straights, and those who haven’t made up their minds yet, get funky under flashing neon.
