Blackpool Travel Guide for backpackers

Mouth breathers and bottom feeders collect here with all their relatives, including the knuckle-draggers and low-brows, but hey, they deserve some fun too. So cast your gentility to winds and join in with the brash, in-your-face vulgarity of the place and enjoy yourself to the utmost.

DAILY BUDGET in BLACKPOOL - Quite obviously you can spend a bundle of your hard-earned moola in just one day on the ‘stoopid, but irresistible' rides at Blackpool, but if you catch your breath, pull yourself together and sit down quietly to figure out your budget, then look at the barest minimum of US$53 a day. Then take it from there, with US$53 giving self catering and camping, or staying in hostels, and US$124 a day providing B&B's, one decent meal, and quite a few entry fees.

Beaches - Stretching seven miles long are wide, sandy beaches littered with the sixteen million sun-seekers who flood into Blackpool time after time.

Illuminations - From September to November over half a million light bulbs are used in a dazzling display decorating the promenade.

Central Pier - This is a great place for day or night entertainment, with ‘The Pier End Family Bar' offering a resident live band.

Harry Ramsden's - Located on 60-63 The Promenade serves the best fish ‘n chips in town.

Lagoonda - Located on 37 Queen St this Afro-Caribbean restaurant really cooks, and serves good food as well.

Robert's Oyster Bar - Located on 92 The Promenade, is the best place for cockles and mussels, and other traditional seaside fare.

Blue - Located on Corporation Street, near the Grand Theatre, Blue is a popular club enjoyed by the locals.

Funny Girls - Located at 9 The Strand, gays and straights all flock to the nightly shows put by this transvestite-run.

Clifton Hotel - Located at North Pier, this down-to-earth bar is the place for a fun-filled, noisy evening with the locals.

West Coast Rock Cafe - has a restaurant on one floor and a bar/club/.nitespot on the next. This is a locals only affair with lots of live bands and themed nights like accoustic, or the monthly punk night.
