Brighton Travel Guide for backpackers

What was once a tiny fishing village way back when, and then in the 1770's became popular when the degenerate Prince Regent, latterly known as George IV, arrived there with his mistress. Brighton today has upmarket shops and restaurants and beautiful old Georgian architecture, and yet still retains a whiff of degeneracy and a cosmopolitan liveliness. Teeming with foreign students, tourists, and flushed with a blossoming gay community Brighton is a great resort.

DAILY BUDGET in BRIGHTON - With budget meals at about $ 5 to $12 USD, and cheap lodging in the region of $18 to $54 USD, a backpacker could just come out on a bare minimum of $57 USD in England, which is an expensive country to visit, and the nearer you get to London the higher the costs, but for $126 USD a day, it is possible to stay in B&B's, eat one decent meal a day and enjoy some paying attractions.

The Brighton Pier - A great place for the kid inside you, here you can play for hours on rides, win prizes at stalls, or blow your mind in the amusement arcades.

Regency Architecture - Stroll around this beautiful town and drink in the elegance and class we once put into our building.

The Lanes - This is the centre of the old fishing village where Brighton began, now its maze of narrow little thoroughfares is packed with bars, pubs, and restaurants.

The Rock Gardens - Opposite Preston Park are the Rock Gardens, climb your way to your hippy hearts content at the most beautiful place within 25 meters of the A23

Options Express - Located at St. James St., friendly service and man-sized portions in sandwiches and baguettes at good prices give great value for money.

The Smugglers - Located at Ship St., a Chinese Restaurant & Take-away is another good bet for good food and good prices.

Jason's - Located on North Street, eating one of Jason's sandwiches or baguettes is a religious experience, and at a reasonable price.

The Railway Hotel - Located at Ditchling Rise, Brighton (opp. London Rd Stn), the cool, laid back vibe here, with a storming beer garden and beer to match, warrants more than one visit. Check out the big screen TV for sports fans, pool table, and darts.

The Prodigal - Wednesday nights take a trip to the seafront when ‘The Prodigal' packs ‘em in with drinks at one pound all night long.

Greens - Located on West St., the resident DJ mixes tunes and makes magic for his followers.

The Basketmakers - A beautiful bar with numerous real ales and fine whiskeys. Good food and no nonesense. More worth a visit than the others mentioed on this website.

Walkabout - Great to watch the fa cup final with some choices of beer: pints of lager, australian VB, carlton cold, New zealand steinlager and so on....
