Bulgaria Travel Guide for backpackers

Although the people of Bulgaria are putting up a valiant struggle to re-invent their lives amid political and social chaos, they are friendly and hospitable and the country is remarkably cheap to tour. Backpackers will find the monasteries, churches, and mosques, and indeed all the amazing attractions of the country well within their reach, as well as the food and accommodation.

Sofia

Sofia - The interesting and beautiful and very diverse architectural styles in the buildings of Sofia are easily explored in this compact city.

Nesebar - It has been around since 510 BC, when the Greeks founded it on the site of a Thracian settlement and it is still there today cashing in on past history with a thriving tourist trade.

Rila Mountains - These beautiful mountains provide some of the finest hiking in the country with magnificent photography opportunities.

Veliko Tarnovo - It is no wonder this city oozes history from every brick, it has been around for yonks, and was the capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire from 1185 to 1393 and remnants and ruins of its past lives still stand in the 21 century.

Koprivshtitsa - Filled with history, cobbled streets and quaint stone bridges, Koprivshtitsa has been well preserved and is a monument to the Bulgarian National Revival.

DAILY BUDGET in BULGARIA - Once considered the most expensive country in the world, Bulgaria is now more tourist-friendly and the struggling backpacker can even get by on $25 a day, if he swears off alcohol and other such luxuries, but for $50 a day he can enjoy a more comfortable vacation without going overboard.

Depending on how you view ice, snow and long never-ending nights Finland is a great place in winter, or if you prefer a sun that is reluctant to set and hangs around for as long as possible then possibly summer would be the best time for you and other sporting enthusiasts to visit. On Midsummer's Day Finns celebrate enthusiastically and drunkenly on the longest day of the year, when bonfires are lit and revelry reaches climactic proportions. Also held over the Midsummer weekend is the long running rock festival Ruisrock held in Turku in July.
