| Cambridge Travel Guide for backpackers |

| Dating back to the late fourteenth century Cambridge is made of beautiful old architecture surrounding green lawns and can be explored in an afternoon, but if you are really interested in the history and the buildings, or want to spend some time on river doing a spot of punting, old chap, then you could quite easily spend a couple more days in this quiet and compact place. |

 |
DAILY BUDGET in CAMBRIDGE - To put up in hostels, or camp, and do some self-catering the backpacker needs to budget at least US$ 53 a day, and for B&B's, one decent meal a day, and a few sights, then look at spending more in the region of US$124 a day. |
Corpus Christi and Queens' College - Worth checking out for the Old Court inside the Corpus Christi College, where Christopher Marlowe graduated in 1587 after writing Tamburlane, and the Tudor courtyards and 15th century cloisters of Queens.
University Botanic Gardens - Forty acres of gardens and glasshouses with enough beauty to keep your interest for the whole afternoon.
Newham College - Quite the most gorgeous college of them all, don't miss making it part of your itinerary.
|

Clowns - at 54 King St, this place is great for cappuccino, sandwiches, snacks and cakes and is not on the main tourist trail.
Rainbow Vegetarian Bistro - at 9a King's Parade, serves great breakfasts and various vegetarian meals such as Indonesian gado-gado, and is inexpensive but good value.
Eraina Taverna - at 2 Free School Lane, is a Greek taverna and dishes up humongous servings of stews, curries, and pizza's, amongst other offerings, and is inexpensive to boot.
|

Fort St George - At Midsummer Common, this pub has a lively and very boisterous clientele, and overlooks the boathouses from its riverside situation.
Elm Tree - Situated at 42 Orchard St, live music and cosy local flavour packs out this pub.
Eagle - found at Bene't St, this is an ancient place with a cobbled courtyard and gets very crowded, but with good reason, check it out when next in town.
Footlights - I love visiting my friends in Cambridge and they all rave about Footlights. Its big and friendly. Cheap eats galore with massively brilliant burgers. The music video system they have really is the best ever!!!
