DAILY BUDGET in CANTERBURY - Budgeting for USD60 a day will make your travels possible, if you have a few dollars to spare you could look at some of the attractions that may be too pricey. |
Fairlie – Lake Opulia, a historic sheep station, an ostrich hatchery, the historical museum, the ski fields and the fishing is great.
Hanmer Springs – Hot thermal springs are a the attraction but rafting, canoeing, horse trekking are cool, and a visit to the Waipara Valley wineries is a tasty experience.
Timaru - Mount Cook is an experience not to be missed. Jet-boating in Rakaia Gorge and walking the longest bridge in New Zealand across the Rakia River is very good.

Sun Flower Centre – Fairlie – For a wonderful wholefood opportunity, this vegetarian cafe offers veg burgers, pies, quiches, sandwiches, soups and salads, all very good.
Barkers Berry Barn – Geraldine – Sample all the groovy fruit products in this shop for free. The bakery makes the best ever goodies to eat in or take out. The coffee is great.
Caledonian Cobb & Co – Caledonian Rd, Christchurch – Good value for money meals. This franchise pub is popular with the locals.

The Bog Irish Bar – Cashel Mall, Christchurch – For a good crank up and a pint this Irish pub is a lively, comfortable pub.
Gas - city center, Christchurch – This bar features semi-industrial electric folk punk. This dive attracts an eclectic mix of people.
Caledonian Cobb & Co - Caledonian Rd, Christchurch – Very popular sports bar plays live music Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights.
