Caracas Travel Guide for backpackers

Situated in a valley at the foot of El Avila; a huge, beautiful mountain, is the City of Eternal Spring, where its green all year round and the weather is perfect. Caracas is a huge, bustling, amazing, modern city where the difference between the “haves” and “haves not” is glaring and crime is a problem but the people are warm and vibrant and the girls are beautiful and you can have mega-fun if you choose.

DAILY BUDGET in CARACAS - Keep your valuables well out of sight and don’t go to the “barrios” it will cost you; crime is problem. Plan on USD60 a day, but more money means more fun.

Iglesia de San Francisco – Much loved by the proud people of Caracas, a visit to this lovely old Baroque style Church has much of interest to see, worth some time.

Avila Mt and Park – For the best birds-eye view of Caracas and the Caribbean Sea, this park is also groovy for bird watching – the feathered kind!

Colonia Tovar – A charming German settlement in the mountains, you trek through a forest; it’s brilliant, a backpacker’s dream.
Add your favourite free attraction!

Areperas – All over Caracas – Tradional cornflour roll filled with whatever you choose; great for a quick, cheap eat and filling too! Areperas are very popular and good value.

El Tinajero de los Helechos – Av Rio de Janeiro – Casual dive, good for steak but there is a big selection of dishes and it won’t cost the earth.

Chipi’s – Sambil Mall in Chacao and Las Mercedes – Cheap and great. The Burgers are huge and you get to make up your own with whatever filling you choose.
Add your favourite cheap eat!

TAZ Sports Bar – Av Principal Las Mercedes – This Typical American Zoo; TAZ, is popular, busy and noisy, great with the young crowd.

Greenwich – Av San Juan, Latamira – rock until you drop. The Little Rock Cafe has live bands most nights if you’re a Hard Rock fan.

Cafe L’Attico – Av Luis Roche – Very groovy hangout, always jam-packed and alive! Grub is Tex-Mex. Locals dig this joint.
Add your favourite bar or club!
