| Even the dreadful war in Croatia could not destroy its sublime beauty, and although its tragedy cannot be forgotten the tourist areas have been cleaned up and restored and it is back to receiving visitors. Set on the Adriatic coast and home to some of the finest Roman ruins in Europe it is undeniably attractive and worth checking out. |
Zagreb - Zagreb has been Croatia's capital city since 1557 and is .home to numerous museums, churches and medieval architecture.
Dubrovnik - this city that has been around for 1300 years has in its old town marble paving stones, palaces, churches, convents, and beautiful fountains.
Rovinj -The Cathedral of St Euphemia towers 57m (187ft) high over the cobbled streets of the picturesque town of Rovinj which has been around for ever.
Split - One of the most beautiful and fascinating of the European cities, Split has the most impressive Roman ruins of the whole world, the imposing Diocletian's Palace.
Korcula - This Island of vineyards and olive trees has a typical Dalmatian medieval town with 14th, 15th and 16th century architecture. |
 DAILY BUDGET in CROATIA - It is not totally beyond the bounds of possibility to survive on US$35 a day in Croatia, if you stay in hostels or camp, but to travel in style bank on paying twice as much for a little luxury and comfort. And, if you really want to whoop it up and impress everyone of lesser financial standing, then flash around US$100 a day. |

As regards the weather in Croatia, May to September is the best time to visit, but the coast becomes pretty crowded during July and August, and September is better as the hordes have gone home leaving the beaches open and off-season rates applying. Spring Time Jazz Fever over March/April in Zagreb brings the cool cats to town, and over July/August the Summer Festival gives classical music lovers their turn.
Dubrovnik gets into the act with its Summer Festival, held in July and August, when it showcases the dramatic and classical music stars of the country, and in the first week of July Zagreb puts on the International Festival of Animation. |
