| Cuba Travel Guide for backpackers |

| Cuba still believes communism is the way to go and possibly because of this it has not become the be all and end all of the tourist crowd. Its very isolation is what adds to the attraction of this beautiful Caribbean island, the relaxed vibe of the people and the old colonial architecture makes Cuba a cool hangout, where you can swim, hike or take you ease in a hammock in the shade of a palm tree, 'wicked Mon'. |

 |
Havana - Old American gas guzzlers of the '50's era cruise the streets of Havana which is lined with magnificent colonial architecture of Spanish heritage, and the nightlife is as hot as a Cuban cigar in the hands of Bill Clinton.
Baracoa - Founded in 1512 by Diego Velázquez and only accessible by sea until the 1960's Baracoa is Cuba's oldest European settlement, with palm trees and sunshine making it a great place for an island getaway.
Pinar del Río Province - For scuba divers, explorers and spelunkers this is ideal country with underground rivers and caves, and some of the most beautiful underwater scenery in the world as well as magnificent landscapes.
Santiago de Cuba - This is home to Cuba's oldest palaces and museums, and shows its heritage of Haitians and the French planters who came to the country in the last century.
Trinidad - The wealth of baroque architecture and run down mansions of the French planters hark back to the days of the early 19th century. |

DAILY BUDGET in CUBA - Though not cheap, Cuba is not totally out of the reach of backpackers and budget travellers, with cheap meals coming at US$5-10, and a room in a private home roughly US$15-25. |
| July and August sees the locals crowding the beaches on their annual vacations, and December to April (winter) is when the European tourist come flocking to Cuba, and Christmas, Easter and July, when the anniversary of the revolution is celebrated, are also peak periods in the country. The Festival of Caribbean Culture is celebrated in June or July, and the Semana de la Cultura Trinitaria comes to Trinidad in late November. |
