| Dieppe Travel Guide for backpackers |

Located in the north of France, the town is close to really good beaches and is connected by ferry to Brighton in the U.K.
It has a fascinating maritime history and is well worth visiting if just for a day or two.

DAILY BUDGET in DIEPPE - Work on a budget of US$47. This will give you a reasonable time in the city, with decent food and a bed over your head. |
Oliver’s - For those of you who are mad about cheese. This little shop boasts over 130 different varieties of cheeses. Then there’s Sommelier – another small cheese and wine shop, where the customers are allowed to sample the product before buying.
Explore - For walkers and bikers there are delightful routes along the three river valleys that lead down to the sea or take a slow ride round the town on a rented bike.
Street Markets - Saturday is Street Market day, when the villagers and tradesmen from the surrounding areas, visit town to sell their homemade produce. Hours can be spent strolling around the market and taking in the sights and sounds.
N/A - Bike track from outside Dieppe to Forge Les Eaux down River Bethune Valle (it's an old railway line tarmac'd over). Stunning countryside. Tent overnight on grass verge.

Open air cafes - Along quai Henri IV, you will find a number of open-air cafes selling mussels, salads and crepes.
Valencay – 19 quai du Hable. This place will have you eating more mussels with chips, with a few local dishes on the menu at very reasonable prices.
Ankara – rue de la Rade. Has a Turkish inspired menu, also including vegetarian dishes and easy on the pocket.
La Melie – An interesting restaurant with an unusual menu. The wife of the chef is Japanese, which lends an interesting twist to the dishes. Red mullet stuffed with crabmeat, seared scallops served with Japanese vinegar and gravity-defying apple souffle are just a very few of the meals that you can choose from.
Galion – 83 quai Henri IV. For strong fish and strong butter dishes. If you are watching your waistline, try this charming restaurant.

The Suckers – Saint Remy St., is a fairly new bar featuring load music and popular with the local student population.
Casino – 3 bd. De Verdun. At night the casino at the Grand Hotel comes alive with shows and gambling. It is worth checking out, but keep your money in your pocket.
Emporium Galorium – 151 rue Beauvoisine. Here you will find live bands and concerts on a regular basis.
Cafe Curieux – 3 rue des Fosses Louis VIII. If being blasted if what you’re looking for, this is the place, with its house, reggae and hiphop.
