Fuerteventura Travel Guide for backpackers

With three thousand hours of sunshine a year Fuerteventura is an all year round holiday destination. It's seductive sandy beaches are the finest in the Canaries and the worn and weathered volcanic landscapes and the amazing sand dunes make this an island of unusual outstanding beauty.

Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands but with a population of less than 40,000 inhabitants it is the emptiest of the islands. The island tends to appeals to beach lovers and watersport fans.

DAILY BUDGET in FUERTEVENTURA - Budget travellers could manage on $40-$50 if they shared rooms at the cheapest hotels and apartments, ate at fast food joints or made their own from choices found in the local supermarkets.

U$ 60- 100 would allow you to have more comfortable accommodation and really party.

Corralejo and Jandia sand dunes - set against a rugged mountain backdrop these dunes are natural wonders of great beauty and sights not to be missed.

Windsurfing - conditions here are among the best in the world so get your board and head for the magnificent beaches of the Jandia.

Iglesia de la Virgin de la Regla - this church in Pajara is simply decorated but its portal is remarkable. Made of soft, pink sandstone and carved with Aztec-style symbols of sun and snakes, lions and doves, it's thought to date from the 16th century but its origin is a mystery.
