| Garden Route Travel Guide for backpackers |

The quiet little town of Heidelberg on the Duiwenhok River is the gateway to the marvellous Garden Route. Travel along the timeless southern Cape coast to the spectacular Storms River and end a fantastic trip in the friendly city of Port Elizabeth.
Along this narrow strip of coastline you can explore caves, hike through forests, travel passes through majestic mountains, pass through the dusty Klein Karoo and visit an ostrich farm or explore the famous Cango Caves. |

George - The Choo-Tjoe Steam Train takes you over the beautiful Outeniqua mountains, through tunnels and gorges and you can also visit the Railway Museum on the station.
Knysna - Visit the Knysna Heads, see the sea horses, explore the forests and visit Mitchells Brewery for a good locally made beer.
Storms River - The highest bungy jump in the world, you can experience here at Bloukrans. Explore the famous Tsitsikama forests to see the ancient yellow wood trees.

Riverside Kitchen - George – on the banks of the Touws River in a groovy thatched barn you can graze good grub for cool bucks.
Pink Umbrella - Knysna - You don’t pay an arm and a leg for the best seafood ever in this cool place with its fluttering brollies.
Drum Cafe - Knysna - Get good graze and try your hand at drumming. A popular dive.

Al’s Dance Club - Knysna - Groovy bar with two dance floors, they play techno, house and 60’s to 80’s music. There are pool tables and big screen videos.
Long Barn Tavern - Knysna - This lively pub is cool for grub as well as live music on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Quarterdeck Bar - Humewood Hotel - This pub features live music on Fridays and Saturdays.
