Grand Canyon Travel Guide for backpackers

This amazing natural phenomenon grabs people of every genus, appealing to those who get high on the beauty of its sunrises and sunsets, to those who marvel at the geologic formation and history, and those who see the challenge in its walls.

Almost 6,000 ft deep and at points 18 miles wide, the canyon offers steep and gruelling hiking that only the very fit can conquer.

DAILY BUDGET in GRAND CANYON - Camping and doing your own cooking over a fire under the stars will get you by on US$50 a day, but for US$100 a day you can still play cowboy with your pork and beans in a billy-can over a fire, but also get to see a whole lot more of what you came for.

Bright Angel Point - Starting on the grounds of the Grand Canyon Lodge and running along the rim this short trail is an exciting and nerve-racking experience, and has in the past been the death of over-enthusiastic show-offs who have gone out to far on the rocks and fallen.

Lees Ferry - This historic spot is the point from which the river rafts usually begin their watery journeys. Great fishing is also available here, with massive trout swimming in the river.

Walks & Hikes - Take in the splendour of Mother Nature on a self guided tour of the rim of the canyon, and check out some of the historic landmarks.
