DAILY BUDGET in LAKE TAUPO - Backpackers can make it in New Zealand if they stay in hostels or camp, and in Auckland there Food halls that provide economical but nourishing meals. Budget on US$5-10 for meals, and : US$10-20 for lodging. |
Skiing and Snowboarding - Mt Ruapehu at the bottom end of lake Taupo is the largest snow area in New Zealand with 1800 hectares of serious room to move. Awesome skiing and snowboarding terrain all in a World Heritage National Park.
Skydiving - If you haven't free-fallen at 200km/hr from 15,000 feet, you haven't lived. This is for the serious adrenaline junkies who want to skydive New Zealand style..
Bungy Jumping - Adrenaline is just a big old euphemism for throwing yourself from a bridge while every cell in your body is screaming, Don't do it! Strangely exhilarating.
Craters of the moon - This is a great 1 hour walk around boiling mud pools and geysers. 10minutes from Taupo by car, this is a must see FREE attraction.
