La Manga Travel Guide for backpackers


Located in the province of Murcia on a narrow, sandy spit of land, is the La Manga holiday resort that the rich flock to for the beautiful beaches and dazzling sunshine. La Manga itself is very pricey but if you venture beyond the resort into the rest of the province you can find some wonderful, interesting attractions, good food and stunning scenery.  

DAILY BUDGET in LA MANGA - You have to be very rich (or have struck it luck in the casino) to stay in the La Manga Resort for any length of time but if you just want to have a look at how the other half lives then stay, eat and drink in the surrounding towns. You can get away with about US $55 a day. Soft drinks in clubs are about US $3, beer US $4 and drinks US $6.

Mar Menor - A salt water lake which is on the border of the La Manga Resort.

Ancient Port of Cartagena - Situated 25km from La Manga, the city boasts renowned archeological museums and ruined Roman theatre. The Port itself also has many attractions including the modernist town hall and many monuments.

Murcia - This city is the capital of the region, 70km from La Manga. Surrounded by splendid scenery the city is home to Episcopol Palace, several churches, museums and if you feel like spending a bit of cash, a casino.

Restaurante Gran Muralla - Situated in Centro Comercial Mangamar. Good quality and relatively well priced Chinese food with set menues for 2,4 or 6.

Restaurante El Pez Rojo - Situated at the end of Paseo de la Barra (Balcony over the Port) in Cartagena. Try the long and narrow trial menu which offers generous portions of many dishes. good fish dishes served.

Restaurante La Sartencia - Situated on the way to the lighthouse in Cartegena. Well priced selection of typical Murcia snacks in a tavern-restaurant.

Arrecife - Situated in Salero Street, Cabo de Palos. A great place to have a few drinks surrounded by good music.

La Palapa - Situated in Salero Street, Cabo de Palos. Good Music and drinks or a light dinner. Try a delicious loaf-bread sandwhich Bocatas from US $4.

Many disco - bars are in the El Mercadillo building, Old Road La Manga - Carbo del Palos - Cartegena Try - Mr Magoo, Torron, 205.
