Liverpool Travel Guide for backpackers

Sorry, can't help it, I have to say it… ‘Liverpool, Home of the Beatles!' (Fade drum roll). There is more than being the spawning grounds of the fab four to Liverpool, but not much. Football, definitely is one of the things that spring to mind when thinking of the city and festivals… it has even claimed the title ‘Festival City', and is making a bid for the European Capital of Culture for 2008.

DAILY BUDGET in LIVERPOOL - $58 a day should see you through on camping, hostelling, and self-catering, but for a more comfortable stay at B&B's with occasional restaurant meals and seeing some of the places the Beatles made famous and the tourist board is now cashing in on, consider spending in the region of $130 a day.

Albert Dock - Since massive renovations and refurbishment has taken place here the dock has become Liverpool's greatest tourism success and offer museums, shops and bars for the visitors' and locals pleasure alike.

Cavern Quarter - Mathew Street is where the Beatles Week celebrations take place in August, and the site of the famous Cavern Club, where the boys used to play and which was demolished in 1973 but rebuilt in 1984.

Strawberry Fields - The Salvation Army's children's home that was made famous by the Beatles and where John Lennon played as a child.

The World Museum Liverpool - Has planetarium, bug house and world cultures gallery.Originally opened in 1853, this museum was reopened this year with twice as much space, after improvements costing £35 million.

The Refectory - Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, St James' Mount, come here for some ‘divine' snacks (somebody, stop me!).

Blue Edward Pavilion - Albert Dock, the food might be cheap but the surroundings are great in the brick-vaulted cafe cum bar.

Casa Italia - 40 Stanley St., past and pizza and all things deliciously Italian makes this the place for an inexpensive treat.
Add your favourite cheap eat!

The Late Room Life Cafe - 1a Bold St., Stand-up comedy will crack you up and the gigs will pick you up at the basement lounge of this cool venue.

Royal Court - Theatre Roe St., regular pop and rock concerts bring the crowds to this Art Deco theatre and concert hall.

Cream - Wolstenholme Square, most definitely the best club in Liverpool, maybe even the whole of Great Britain!
