London Travel Guide for backpackers

This grand old city has so much to offer in the way of history, sightseeing, and shopping, that it is a wonder anybody has any energy left for its nightlife, yet, this is a city with an amazing night-time existence that generates overwhelming energy and exhilaration.

London is grand mix of wealth and poverty, 'evah-so genteel' nobility and cap wearing commoners, Her Majesty and Andy Capp personified at every corner.

DAILY BUDGET in LONDON - England, and London in particular can be very daunting to the cash strapped, back-packing traveler as it is so expensive. Just to survive, you should bank on spending nothing less than USA$ 59 for accommodation, a one-day travel card, and food.

Hyde Park - Who has not heard of Hyde Park? Here you can stand on a soap box and harangue the crowds on any topic close to your heart, check out Henry Moore sculptors, or take a boat ride on the Serpentine Lake.

Portobello Market - This is London's most well-known weekend street market with just about every possible kind of wares on sale, from second-hand clothes to antiques, and fruit and veg stalls to jewellery and arts and crafts.

Covent Garden - Just about everything is located at Covent Gardens, and the tourist can buy anything from designer clothes and gifts, antiques, and knick-knacks of ethnic design, then have a quick one in one of the trendy bars and restaurants.

National Gallery - Thanks to Ken LIvingston many of the large galleries and museums are free. Check out the National Gallery which houses a ridiculously large and fantastic collection.

Borough Market - Head to Borough Market at the weekend and you will find it packed with lots of food and drink stalls. Lots of fun can be had browsing round and trying the free samples!

Camden town - it's an amzing place with a plenty of shops and a colorful market with a lot of stands.
