Madrid Travel Guide for backpackers

This is truly the city that never sleeps, the people are among the friendliest in the world and from the minute you arrive till the moment you have to leave you are made to feel like one of the locals. The nightlife is mind-blowing and you almost feel like it is against the law to go to bed at an early hour. If propping up bars and dancing till the early hours of the morning are what your soul is yearning for then Madrid is the place to unleash the party dawg in you.

DAILY BUDGET in MADRID - Euro is the currency here and you can easily survive on about US$40 a day, especially if you cook your own meals and go camping instead of staying in hotels, motels etc. Your accommodation should be in the region of about US$16 – 50 and food being about US$6-11.

Casa De Campo - After a long night of drinking, dancing, and scooping, this is the place to come too, all you need is a picnic basket, but if that is not your thing, there are cafes, not forgetting the aquarium, zoo, and amusement park.

Puerta De Alcala to San Jeronimo - For those of you who are interested in art, history, and culture, this is your stop, filled with museums, Buildings, and of course, art galleries will keep you busy for hours.

Moorish Quarter - South of Palacio Real is the Moorish quarter, Summer is the best time to come here as the whole area becomes an open air theatre and of course concerts are held here on a regular basis.

Museum Queen Sofia - You can go Free the saturday pass 2pm

Royal Palace of Madrid - The palace has a free entry on wednesdays. I'm not sure if it is free all day, but we went there in the morning and had free entry. Don't forget to see the Royal Armoury and the Apothecary!!
