Malaga Travel Guide for backpackers

City of Medieval castles, Moor and Baroque architecture, narrow streets, beautiful gardens, grey high rise apartments and friendly locals. Malaga boasts Spain’s second largest port, an international airport to the Andalucian region, the birthplace of Picasso and a city which never sleeps.

DAILY BUDGET in MALAGA - Malaga is one of the cheapest cities in Europe to visit. If you budget around US$ 66 per day this should get you clean accommodation, a meal, transport and into one or two attractions.

Off the beaten track - Take a stroll through narrow streets to discover squares, museums and churches.

Gibralfaro - Don’t waste your money on buses and taxis. Take a strenuous walk to the Gibralfaro, a Moorish Castle overlooking the city, beaches and bullring.

La Manquita - This cathedral, which means “the little one armed lady” just off the avenue Paseo del Parque and five minutes walk from here you find Alcazaba a 15th Century Moorish fort, which rambles over an entire hillside, once forming part of the shoreline.
Add your favourite free attraction!

El Caleno - Seafront promenade of Pedregalejo – Fresh fish and seafood caught on the day. Don’t be tempted to try the more unusual fish, keep it simple on the tastebuds and the pocket.

Cantina Mariachi - Larios Centro, Av. De la Aurora,21 – As the name suggests, Mexican, served fast food style, reasonably priced and a large variety.

La Posada - Calle Granada, 33 – Large, centrally located restaurant serving traditional meat dishes. Excellent value for money.
