Malmo Travel Guide for backpackers


Although Malmo is the third largest city in Sweden, everything is within walking distance. The city has a huge number of beautiful parks, gardens, castles, museums and tons of restaurants. When it comes to entertainment and music there is something to suit everyones taste, everything from legendary night clubs to jazz, concerts and even the Malmo Symphony Orchestra. every August the International Malmo festval takes place and its a great time to visit  

DAILY BUDGET in MALMO - Sweden can be expensive, expect to pay US$12-22 for budget accommodation and US$7-8 for budget meals. In Malmo clubs and bars can charge anything from US$6.50-23.50 cover charge. Museums charge US$5 entrance fee. A budget of about US$60 per person per day should get you through.

Slottesparken - This and other parks, explain why Malmo is often called "a city of parks". This park is an oasis for locals and tourists with open spaces, ponds, paths and enjoy a bit of theatre and music festivals.

Saluhallen - Near Lilla Torget Square, this is an excellent indoor market.

Malmo Stortoret - This was Scandinavias largest square with market trading during the 16th century. There is a statue of King Karl X Gustaf, the Town Hall, the residance and Hotel Kramer. The small square behind has many great restaurants and pubs.

B & B - Situated in the Market Hall in central Malmo, the name stands for Butic och Bar (shop and bar) fantastic home-cooked meals and sometimes even entertainment at the piano. Meals under 100kr-150kr.

Spot - This Italian restaurant serves unpretentious food at reasonable prices. Lunch costs under 100 kr. No dinner.

Cafe Siesta - Situated at Ostindiefararegaton. This fun, quirky cafe serves good value, filling sandwiches and homemade apple cake. Meals from 100 - 250kr.

Etage - Centraly located with a hip crowd and offering two dance floors, with dancing begining late under the psychedelic lights, a piano bar and a restaurant. Entrance fee 50kr.

Nyharn - Situated in the trendy immigrant quarter of the city this is an appealing bar.

Matssons Musik Pub - Situated behinde the Radhus. A casual pub with occasional live music.
