| Manaus Travel Guide for backpackers |

| The image you see when approaching Manaus by air is a ‘green sea’ of Amazon Jungle. This is the chance to experience a truly natural sanctuary. One of those places that, once you have seen you will never forget. |

DAILY BUDGET in MANAUS - If you're travelling on buses every couple of days, staying in hotels for $10 a night, and eating in restaurants or drinking in bars every night, $40 is a rough estimate of what you would need. If you plan to lie on a beach for a month, eating frugally, $25 would be enough. Prices for accommodation increase 25-30% from December to February |
Teatro Amazonas (Amazon Opera House) - Built in the Opera de Paris style and main architectural landmark in the city.
Adolpho Lisboa Market - A great place to see local fish and produce.
Alfandega (Old Customs House) - On Marquesa da Santa Cruz St was prefabricated in England in 1912, shipped in pieces, and reconstructed in Manaus.
|

Street food stalls - Found everywhere - around the docks, and in the Praca da Matriz, where a wholesome meal will cost $2.
Praca da Policia - Is the downtown square, with many cafes and restaurants. Manaus is very hot, so this is a good place to relax and drink a very cold beer or soft drink.
Anavilhaus - Av. Joaquim Nabuco 498- One of the cheapest places in town for good cooked meals and excellent fish dishes
|

Bar do Amando - (in front of the Opera House) frequently has locals playing guitars and singing inside
Mykonos Disco - facing the Opera House at the corner of Rua Jose - popular with tourists.
Clubs - Most exciting ones are around Praia Ponta Negra. Their names change frequently. Good music with a blend of old and modern sambas.
