| Manila Travel Guide for backpackers |

| Capital of the Philippines, Manila is a metropolis that explodes with life and energy and frightens off less than intrepid travellers, but if you have the chutzspah to enjoy the noise and flashing neon, it is a city that grows on you. Although it does have its share on historic colonial ruins, you probably won’t have the energy to check them out, suffering major hangovers from the previous night’s excesses. |

DAILY BUDGET in MANILA - The way the Philippines economy bounces around it is difficult to set a solid figure on costs, but roughly speaking, the cheapest and most basic lodging and food, will set you back about US$10-30 a day. For a bit of comfort and some decent food consider spending more in the region of US$30-100. |
Intramuros - after General Douglas MacArthur finished wrecking the place in WWII there wasn’t much left of the original fort that had its beginnings in 1590, but renovations have begun on what he did leave standing and some of the buildings have been fully restored.
Rizal Park - Gorgeous ornamental gardens and acres of open lawn make this park a popular place, and people come here to jog, picnic, or play music or do whatever grabs them.
Beaches - Swim, dive, or just chill on the beaches around the city.
|

Aling Nena Express - At Vito Cruz St cnr. South Superhighway, open 24 hours and selling great cheap eats make this place one of the most popular spots in Manila.
Aristocrat - 432 San Andres St, Malate, well, maybe not all that aristocratic with plastic chairs and lino on the floor, but the food good and more importantly, the food is cheap.
Eat Inc Podium 3, RCBC Plaza - At cnr. Ayala Ave and Buendia, there are dozens of food stalls in this place, where you can nosh on anything from sushi to red meat.
Marinold Grill - Along C5 Road, Taguig City
The best grill and bar restaurant ;)

Raj - At 1820 Maria Orosa St, Malate, bring your dimming chakra’s (energy centres for those who are not switched on to the latest fad), and have them brightened in the beautiful ambience of this swish Indian Bar.
Seven-Eight Orange - At 7480 Makati Ave, Guest DJ’s spin electronic rave in a concrete bunker, and the crowds come storming in.
Sky Lounge - Located in the Manila Diamond Hotel, Roxas Boulevard, with a great view over Manila Bay, this is the place to bring your significant other, or whomever you really want to impress, or dazzle with the mesmerizing fibre-optic ceiling and romantic music.
