Milan Travel Guide for backpackers

Well dressed and fast paced, Milan is not Rome, but it does have history, with churches and museums that bring you up to speed on things long past. It also has parks and cool cafes where you can watch elegant folk zip past on their way to important business meetings, or the latest showing at one of the finest fashion houses in the world.Theatre, cinema and a club scene par excellence is what drives the Milanese, apart from shopping that is.

DAILY BUDGET in MILAN - Hostels, self catering and mounds of self discipline could see the backpacker scraping by on a daily budget of US$48 a day, and for a slightly more comfortable stay, with decent beds, good restaurant food and seeing a few galleries or attractions, then a budget of US$150 a day should do it.

Piazza del Duomo - This is the centre of life in Milan, and the place to watch the goings on of the well dressed folk, and check out the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. Guarding Public - This is Milan's oldest public park, with tree-lined shady avenues and a lake where you can relax and recover from last night's rave. Civic Galleria darter Modern - At Via Plastron 16, is what was once Napoleon's residence, now and art gallery with free entrance.

Food markets - The backpackers savior, check grammatical errors Street-markets, are found throughout the city and provide the cheapest meal of all, selling cheese, salami, and fruit. Luini - at Via S. Radegonda 16, it would be plain dorky to miss this place that has been serving panzerotti (deep-fried mini calzone) from the gods for one hundred and fifty years! Oskar - At Via Palazzi 4, is a great place where you can get a mother of a serving of pasta at backpacker prices. Warsa - at Via Melzo 16, there… tight in the middle of Milan's shops and bars is Africa. Warsa is an Eritrean restaurant where you can get good, cheap food.
Add your favourite cheap eat!

Magazzini Generali - Located at Via Pietrasanta, once a warehouse but now the meaning of life to clubbers who enjoy live music. Tunnel - Located at Via Sammartini 30, a different scene, where you can listen to national bands doing their stuff, or enjoy one of their dance night. Bar Brera - Located at Via Brera 23, come here to watch the passing crowds and enjoy a drink at the same time.
