| This is the capital of Uruguay, and is where a lot of the locals take their holidays, attracted by the white sands of its beaches. The architecture in the city is a blend of Art Deco as well as colonial Spanish and Italian styles. Montevideo’s old city stands on a small peninsula near the port and harbour, and is the main point of interest to the tourists who flock to this attractive place. |

Mercado Del Puerto – The old port market of Mercado Del Puerto is a great wrought-iron building that was opened in 1868, and has excellent seafood restaurants, and where artists and such like sell their wares, and buskers entertain the crowds on Saturdays.
Museo Histórico Nacional – Made up of four different Ciudad Vieja houses, which were once the homes of national heroes, the national history museum brings the country’s history alive with various collections and displays.
Palacio Legislativo – This three-storey building that was raised in 1908 is one of the city’s greatest attractions, especially at night when it is brilliantly lit and takes on a magical glow.

Ruffino - San Jose 1166, this great little restaurant serves pasta and pizza with warmth and friendliness, and most dishes start at under US$10.
Don Peperone – Montevideo Shopping Centre, Another Italian place with some of the most excellent pizza in town also coming at under US$10 a plate.
La Pasiva – Located throughout the city, and serving a range of cuisines, locals recommend these popular and simple eateries, and meals are under US$10 a plate.

Milenio Dance - 749 - 25 de Mayo Street, there is a liberal attitude in this nightclub, and gays and lesbians are welcome here where the music is strictly Dance.
W Lounge - Rambla Wilson and Requena, This is the ‘in’ place of Montevideo, with great music, drinks that are affordable, and a cool vibe.
Cabildo - Bartolome Mitre 1367, wicked tunes, great vibe, and the best place for dancing if you have the energy to keep uo with the crowd.
