Montpellier Travel Guide for backpackers

This ancient university city is renowned for its medical school founded in the 13th century. The very school at which Nostradamus qualified.

This bustling metropolis is one of France’s fastest growing cities due to an influx of new immigrants and thousands of students.

DAILY BUDGET in MONTPELLIER - With so much to see and do, without leaving a hole in your pocket and out on the streets the amount of US$46 should do the trick.

Explore - The town has something for everyone, being both very old and very new, can keep you fascinated for days.

Place de la Come’die - Sit at one of the cafes on the place de la Come’die, with its 18th century Fountain of the Three Graces and watch the world go by. Jardin des Plantes - Stroll through the oldest Botanical Garden in France. Opened in 1593 this garden is filled with exotic plants from around the world and a handful of greenhouses.

Cathe’drale St-Pierre - If you’re going to take in a cathedral it must be Cathe’drale St-Pierre founded in 1364.
