| Murcia Travel Guide for backpackers |

| Murcia is a regional capital and university city found on the river Segura and was founded in 825 by the Moors. The centre of the modern city is the 18th century square, La Glorieta. The pedestrianized Calle de la Traperia, linking the cathedral and the former marketplace (now the Plaza Santo Domingo), is the city´s main street. The city is characterized by its old history of commerce and agriculture, and has many historical attractions. |

DAILY BUDGET in MURCIA - It is possible to get by on a daily budget of US$40, and still enjoy most of what the city has to offer. A daily budget of around US$90 will give you opportunity to to sample more of the local cuisine and enjoy a hectically busy nightlife. |

Museo de Tradiciones y Artes Populares - This folk museum stands next to a large water wheel, a copy of the original 15th century wooden wheel. Three galleries display agricultural and domestic items, some of which are over 300 years old.
Mar Menor - This large, sheltered lagoon is 5ºC warmer in summer than the Mediterranean. Its high mineral concentrations first drew rest-cure tourists in the early 20th century. They stayed at the older resorts of Santiago de la Ribera and los Alcazares, which still have pretty wooden jetties protruding from their beaches.
Cathedral - The cathedral in Murcia was built in 1394 over the foundation of Murcia´s central mosque, and it was finally consecrated in 1467. The cathedral museum displays grand gothic altarpieces, a frieze from a Roman sarcophagus and the third largest monstrance in Spain.

Aires de Murcia - This restaurant has an unusual atmosphere, the dinner room is full of plants that the owner takes care of with passion and dedication. The food and wines are good and the service is excellent. The salmon dish is highly recommended.
El Soto - Located at 14 Paseo del Malecon, this restaurant serves a good variety of local cuisine from the famous tapas to ancestral stews. Great service and a wonderfull atmosphere makes this one of the best places to grab a bite to eat.
Hispano - Found at 3 Radio Murcia, this tapas bar is very popular with the locals. You can sit outstide and watch the world go by while enjoying your meal. The food is great and the prices very affordable. Try it out, you won't be disappointed.

KM Disco Garden - KM has been the best English club since 1989. With a capacity of 5000. Two different dance floors in a dance club area. A huge garden area. Laser shows & intelligent lighting. It has 12 bars & a snack bar, so you won't have to wait to be served.
Lennons - Lennons is the friendliest disco on the Square. Groove to all the latest tunes with the wicked DJs. Check out the crazy theme nights and fun parties. Its very busy and always busy all year long.
