| Palmero Travel Guide for backpackers |

| To view Palermo from the sea is really cool - the view is breathtaking and Palermo is the one city in Sicily worth a visit. Palermo's history is a long and colourful one. The Mafia with its stranglehold on Palermo have met with strong opposition from
Leoluca Orlando, the city's mayor from 1993. Keep your money and camera well out of sight and don't venture in quiet places after dark.
Restoration of Palermo's historical places has sparked new interest in its architectural heritage and there is much to experience. Visit the open street markets, watch out for the traffic; get accustomed to cars roaring by and sirens wailing in this bustling city.
