Portsmouth Travel Guide for backpackers

Portsmouth and the adjoining Southsea seaside resort is quite possibly one of the best holiday destinations in England, with castles, forts, and old ships giving a glimpse into the country’s maritime past offering great sightseeing and exploring. Geared for tourists there are many attractions and activities to keep the visitor busy.

DAILY BUDGET in PORTSMOUTH - If you enjoy camping, or staying in hostels, and love cooking your own grub, then you could get away with US$40 a day. If, however, you prefer to exist on a more comfortable level, then be prepared to fork out at least US $72 a day, for a decent bed in a B&B, restaurant meals, and checking out the paying sights.

Portsmouth Garrison Church - Penny Street, Grand Parade. An ancient church that was built thousands of years ago in 1212 is worth every minute of your time spent there.

Portsmouth Harbour - Spend the day messing about in boats and watching the comings and goings of ships at this busy harbour.

HM Naval Base - Portsmouth, check out some of the greatest ships to have sailed the seas, Mary Rose, HMS Victory, HMS Warrior.
