San Antonio Travel Guide for backpackers

Set in a bay on the west coast of the island, San Antonio is Ibiza's most popular and lively resort, with an incredible range of shops, bars, restaurants, discos and nightclubs. There are a few small sandy beaches in the resort, and the spectacular beaches of Cala Conta, Cala Bassa and Cala Tarida are a short ferry ride away.

July and August are the best months to visit for those looking for buzzing nightlife, while the months of May and June, and September and October are most popular with families, couples and elder visitors.

DAILY BUDGET in SAN ANTONIO - It is possible to get by on a daily budget of around US$40 per day, if you stay in budget accomodation and dine at tapas bars. If you want to stay in hotels and really sample the nightlife hat San Antonio has to offer, a daily budget of around US$90 will be sufficient.

Sa Cova de Santa Agnes - Found north of the waterfront, and has been a place of sacred worship ever since a sailor prayed to Santa Agnes during a rough storm and was saved. The sailor, to show his gratitude, placed a figure of the saint in this dark hole. It's become a place of pilgrimage ever since.

Es Vedra Rock - Here in times of hardship and hunger, the Ibicencos would go, at great personal risk, to gather seagull eggs for survival. A Carmelite priest once recorded mystical revelations and meetings with "unearthly beings surrounded by light" while meditating on the island. Gigantic circles of light, up to 50m in diameter, have allegedly emerged from the sea here at times.
