San Diego Travel Guide for backpackers

Sunshine and sand for miles on the beaches of San Diego bring the people to this friendly Hispanic city, but so much more holds them here. A perfect climate helps, and the relaxed vibes throughout the town adds to its charm, and, well, let’s face it, with the main industry being that of growing flowers no one really feels too pressured around here.

DAILY BUDGET in SAN DIEGO - If you are prepared to camp or stay in hostels and do your own culinary exercises, which is just an over-pompous way of saying cooking, but how else can it be dressed up? Anyway, if you are happy to rough it and bum what you can’t afford, then you should be able to get by on $50 a day. If, however, you have a spare $100 lying around each day, then you can live it up royally by staying in a motel, eat in restaurants, and even have some left over for entrance fees.

Torrey Pines State Reserve – Hike through this magnificent reserve and if your interest doesn’t lie with botany or birdwatching, enjoy the scenery.

Mission Beach & Mission Bay – Climb on a bike and explore the many trails through the surrounding country or grab a board and catch some waves.

La Jolla Cove – Take a few hours snorkelling and checking out what the fish are up to and then do the picnic munch thing.
Add your favourite free attraction!

Ba-Le Sandwich Shop – Clairemont, you have to try these excellent Vietnamese delicacies take them home or munch on them at your favourite picnic spot.

El Indio – Downtown, for those whose budgets are minute and appetites humongous, this food fills with flavour.

San Diego Chicken Pie Shop - North Park, good old American food at backpacker’s prices.

Sushi on Beach - Sushi for every taste! You can order very much for real low prices! If you only take rice, the very nice owner gives you free vegetables and sauce if you are able to smile very nice! Warning: Don`t take too much Wasabi! :-)
Add your favourite cheap eat!

Brick by Brick – 1130 Buenos Ave., The pick of the bunch with rocking Indie music.

Cannibal Bar – 3999 Mission Blvd., Down to earth and swinging with live music, DJ, rock, pop, and jazz.

Bar Dynamite – 1808 W Washington St., Dance, DJ, Hip-hop/rap/funk, House/techno, Lounge, they leave nothing out at this great bar/club.
Add your favourite bar or club!
