| Santiago de Cuba Travel Guide for backpackers |

Santiago de Cuba is the second largest and most Caribbean city of Cuba, with its laid-back lifestyle and rich mix of inhabitants. Set on a deep-water bay and cradled by mountains it offers you colonial buildings, different museums and revolutionary monuments. Afro-Cuban culture, with its music, myths and rituals, formed its roots here.
The arrangement of narrow streets around the colonial quarter rings night and day with the beat of drums and the toot of horns. Music is a way of life oozing from the most famous Casa de la Trova in the country, not to mention numerous impromptu gatherings.
Outside the city, you will find a variety of possibilities to hike, swim and visit.
