Sorrento Travel Guide for backpackers

Between the Gulf of Naples in the north and Salerno in the south is the Sorrento Peninsula. The preferred holiday place of thousands, even the ancient Romans flocked here to recharge their batteries. Although Sorrento is crowded, there are many places of unspoilt beauty and the slopes along Croce della Conocchia are planted with olive trees and grapevines. The streets of Sorrento are planted with orange and lemon trees and the delightful smell lingers in your memory long after you have left.

DAILY BUDGET in SORRENTO - You may get by on USD80 a day. Cheap food is easily found but cheap accommodation is a challenge.

Beaches - the best beach in Sorrento is Puta de Capo but there are other strips of beaches around you may like to visit.

Hiking - pleasant hiking is the order of the day. There are many marked trails. Check out at the Tourist Office.

Chiesa di San Francesco - Via San Francesco - in the heart of noisy, crowded Sorrento this place of beauty is one of cool tranquillity.
Add your favourite free attraction!

Parruchiano - Corso Italia - a huge place, very popular with the locals and the tourists and the food is good, Great value.

Da Gigino - Via degli Archi - The food is good. Awesome pizzas and pastas at affordable prices.

Angelina Lauro-Piazza Angelino Lauro - an inexpensive self- service place catering for vegetarians as well. Good snacks and full meals are served.

Bocconci - via Vico 1 Fuoro, 21- Hidden away this tiny franchise does mega value lager and stupendously gorgeous toasted local bread mozzarella sarmies. Also local salamies and cheeses to take away.

Da Giginos & Parruchiano's - I'd like to endorse Da Giginos: best margharita pizzas I've ever eaten but staff could be friendlier. Must disagree about Parruchiano's. Only ate here a second time as given free meal as first one was so awful.
Add your favourite cheap eat!

Taverna dell'800 - Via dell'Accademia - Relax in this cosy bar where guitar and piano music will tickle your ears. The food comes at a good price as well and there is no cover charge.

Chaplins Pub - Corso Italia draws the boisterous crowds and drinking goes on until 3 in the mornings.

The Club - Piazza - Where the young from America and Europe flock to dance the night out.
